Brett Ratner in Talks to Direct HERCULES

It looks like Brett Ratner could end up directing the upcoming Hercules film being set up by Avi Lerner at his Millennium/Nu Image production company. Ratner was close to directing the latest Conan film currently in development, but even without Ratners involvement that movie looks like it's gonna suck. According to LA Times,

Ratner is in talks to direct Lerner's long-developed tale of the mythological god (Hercules to the Romans, Heracles to the Greeks). The producer has been developing the movie for more than three years, with the project gaining new momentum of late, though it's still in the development stage. Little is known about the specifics of the new version, though it's expected to bring Lerner's classic action ethos to the larger-than-life character.

Ratner seems to have several projects in development, but none of them are going anywhere. I'm honestly not sure why studios are still looking at Ratner as an option to direct their films. The guy just needs to stick to directing Rock Band commercials. I think a Hercules film could be pretty cool, but if Ratner ends up directing it, then that Hercules coolness is no more. I'm not the biggest Ratner fan, personally I think he's not a creative or talented director at all. If this doesn't work out, I'm sure he'll go out and make a Rush Hour 4.

There's actually another Hercules film in the works at Spyglass Entertainment called Hercules: The Thracian Wars which is supposed to be directed by Peter Berg. Not sure where that production currently stands though.

What do you all think of Brett Ratner possibly directing this new Hercules film? Are there even any Brett Ratner fans out there that isn't Brett Ratner?
