Sam Raimi Takes on a Sci-Fi Wyatt Earp Film Project

Movie Sam Raimi by Joey Paur

Sam Raimi went out and attached himself to direct another cool movie project that takes Wyatt Earp and places him in the future. Raimi will be developing the comic book film adaptation of Earp: Saints for Sinners for DreamWorks Pictures!

The story re-imagines the famous western hero Wyatt Earp, but it's set in a future where he takes on outlaws in a ravaged society where the only boomtown left is Las Vegas. The classic Earp is best know for the shootout at the O.K. Corral with Doc Holiday and his two brothers.

This seems like a perfect project for Raimi to take on, and I'm excited to see what he ends up doing with it. There's a lot of room for him to have fun with this project and world. I think Raimi will do what he does best with this story and create something really fun and exciting.

Here is the full synopsis from the comic:

In a world where the American economy has all but collapsed to the levels of the Great Depression, infamous bandits roam the country and the law is as corrupt as the criminals its sworn to stop. Yet one lawman remains a steadfast moral compass for the people: WYATT EARP. Earp has collared more most-wanted men than anyone in history – but after a violent assignment claims the life of his brother, Wyatt sets out to forge a simple life in the only boomtown left: Las Vegas. With gorgeous women and free-flowing money on endless tap, Sin City attracts more people than a modern gold rush. Though Earp no longer wears a U.S. Marshall’s badge, his past is about to catch up to him. \With nearly everything to lose, Earp will have to beat the odds stacked against him in order to bring old-fashioned justice to Sin City.

The comic was created by Matt Cirulnick and Mandeville exec David ManpearlM. Zachary Shermanwrote the story with Cirulnick, and the illustrations are by Mack Chater and Martin Montiel. Radical Publishing plans on unveiling the project this Thursday during it Comic-Con.

Raimi is currently attached to direct the World of Warcraft film, and last we heard from Raimi, he's still in talks with Disney to direct OZ, The Great and Powerful.

What do you think about Rami taking on this futuristic Wyatt Earp film?
