First Look at James Franco, Freida Pinto and Andy Serkis Filming RISE OF THE APES

Rise of the Apes, the prequel to Planet of the Apes, is currently in production and here is our first look on the set of the film. The photo below shows us James Franco, Freida Pinto and Andy Serkis filming a scene from the movie. Serkis is playing an ape in the film which is why he's sporting the motion capture suit. This is the seconds time he's played a monkey in a movie, the first was Peter Jackson's King Kong.

The CGI in the film is being created by WETA. They will be using a groundbreaking technologies developed for AVATAR and "will render, for the first time ever in the film series, photo-realistic apes rather than costumed actors."

It should be interesting to see how this all turns out. Check out the ful image below feel free to share your thoughts!

Synopsis:

RISE OF THE APES (tentative title) is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
