BIOSHOCK to be a Hard 'R' Movie!? Yes Please!
It's hard to imagine that Universal Pictures will allow for the hit video game Bioshock to be turned into a hard 'R' film, but this is exactly what the producer of the movie Gore Verbinski is hoping for! I think it's safe to say it's something the fans of the video game will be looking forward to seeing as well. Here's what Verbinski recently told IGN.
We're working trying to make it. The problem with BioShock was: R-rated movie, underwater, horror. It's a really expensive R-rated movie. So we're trying to figure out a way working with [director] Juan Carlos [Fresnadillo] to get the budget down and still keep so it's true to the core audience, you know? The thing is it has to be R, a hard R.
I expected this movie to be PG-13, but hopefully Verbinski gets his way. This wouldn't be the first video game adapted movie to get a hard 'R' rating. Silent Hill was a pretty insane film, and in my opinion one of the best video game adapted movies that's been made. Making the movie with an 'R' rating isn't going to hurt the setting or story, I think it will make it stronger, and more true to the awesome video game. Verbinski continued saying,
We don't want to dumb it down, we don't want to make it PG-13. We want to keep it really edgy, and it's a huge bill.
Thank you! Now, here's a guy that actually knows what the fans want to see! Verbinski was attached to direct the film at one point, but due to budget constraints the studio took the film project out of the country, and he ended up dropping out. He's now attached as a producer on the film and 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has taken over the directing duties. Bioshock is currently on hold until he is finished directing another film called The Intruders.
I really hope that Verbinski gets his way on this film. If he does Bioshock could end up being a fantastic video game adapted movie!
What do you all think about Bioshock getting a hard 'R' rating?
