Jason Flemyng Cast as Azazel in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Actor Jason Flemyng has been cast in the role of Nightcrawler's father Azazel in Matthew Vaughn's upcoming comic book film X-Men: First Class. The news was revealed today to Empire at Movie-Con. Here's what Flemyng had to say,

Matthew showed me my costume just the other day. Now I swore I’d never be in heavy make-up again, but this role is going to involve it. But at least they said, “Don’t worry, we’ll add the tail in post”. I am Azazel, and I can teleport by waving my arms [gestures like a cross between a flamenco dancer anda  Bollywood star].

This won't be the first time Flemyng worked with Vaughn. He had roles in both Layer Cake, Stardust and Kick-Ass. He also has worked with Guy Ritchie in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Flemyng is a fun actor to watch in the movies that he's in, and I'm sure he'll have some fun with this role.

This is actually a very interesting character, and here is a description of Azazel straight from Marvel:

A mutant from biblical times, Azazel is the ruler of the Neyaphem and claims that the Earth and everything on it belongs to him. To save humanity from persecution and death by Azazel, the angels banished him to the Brimstone dimension. Only able to leave this dimension for short amounts of time, he fathered many children throughout the Earth; Nightcrawler being one of them. Using his mental link with his children and bringing them all to one place, the place of his banishment, Azazel was able to open a portal to the brimstone dimension. Before he could finish, the X-Men arrived and a fight ensued with the X-Men being trapped in Azazel's dimension. With the help of Polaris and Azazel, all the X-Men escaped back to the real world.
