GREEN LANTERN 3: Coming in 2013?
It's no secret Warner Bros. is hoping for a big hit with Green Lantern, their Ryan Reynolds comic book action film set to soar into theaters in June of next year. But could they be greenlighting not one, but two sequels already, with plans to shoot the last two back-to-back?
BleedingCool provides an interesting update on the Green Lantern saga, with reports from the New Orleans set. They make sure to point out this could be a rumor - and even go so far as to say these quotes could be entirely made up by people working on the film in order to impress members of the opposite sex in bars - but their sources claim they've heard that the studio is so confident in the first film, they're going to begin rolling on the second one before the first even hits theaters.
It's common sense that if the first Green Lantern rakes in the cash WB is expecting, they'll greenlight a third film in the series. But BC suggests that if/when this happens, they'll film Green Lantern 2 and 3 back-to-back, Lord of the Rings style. Ryan Reynolds is a busy man, and with rumors heating up of Robert Rodriguez's involvement with the upcoming Deadpool film Reynolds is attached to, not to mention R.I.P.D. and a few other projects in the works, it'll be interesting to see how this situation plays out for WB. Could Geoff Johns and Co. over at DC Entertainment finally be getting their act together and preparing to truly rival Marvel and their superhero enterprises? Judging by the footage we saw at Comic-Con, Green Lantern could be a healthy start down that path.
