Marvel to Start Shooting THE RUNAWAYS in 2011
Marvel Studios is prepping up to start shooting the comic book film adaptation of The Runaways. Production Weekly reports that the film has been given a start date of March 2011. They also reveal that the film will be shooting under the title Small Faces in Los Angeles.
Update: Marvel's “The Runaways” (aka "Small Faces"), is scheduled to begin filming in March in L.A.
Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist director Peter Sollett is the man who will develop the film based on the comic book created by Brian K. Vaughn. The comic was critically praised for its honest portrayal of teens and their issues and in 2006 won a Harvey Award for best series.
Runaways follows a group of teenagers who find that some family secrets are bigger than others when they discover their parents are actually super-villains. Running away from their homes, the teens band together and begin a journey of discovery, both of their parents' origins and of their own inherited powers, while trying to make up for the evil done by their folks.
I never really followed this comic, but I heard it's really good. I wish Marvel would have started Dr. Strange first, but this film has been in pre-development for a while now. It's time they get it started.
