Carl Ellsworth writing R.L. Stein's GOOSEBUMPS Movie

Looks like there's some movement on that new live-action Goosebumps movie that was announced a while ago. Columbia Pictures has hired Disturbia screenwriter Carl Ellsworth to write the screenplay for the film based on the classic R.L. Stine book series.

Neal Moritz is producing through his Original Film banner with Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment. Columbia pictures is looking to turn this series into a major family franchise. I don't know if you remember or not but there was a fun little Goosebumps TV series that ran for awhile which was actually pretty decent.

The Goosebumps series have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide, second only to the Harry Potter series in total sales. There's a huge audience out there for this, a lot of people grew up reading this series, so I think this could end up being a very successful movie franchise. Personally, I'd like to see director Joe Dante (The Burbs, Gremlins) develop the project. The guy knows how to make great family horror films.

Before Ellsworth came on board the project, screenwriters Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander (1408) previously worked on adapting the material.

What are your thoughts on this new Goosebumps feature film franchise?
