Rob Zombie to take on LORDS OF SALEM for his next Film
Musician & Filmmaker Rob Zombie is giving up remaking horror movies and moving forward with developing his original ideas into movies. He was going to direct a remake on The Blob, but has given up on it because he doesn't want to deal with it, he's done with making forgettable movies. Zombie explained to deadline in a recent interview,
I wanted to break away from anything related to preexisting material. The remake train is getting pretty tired now and when I made Halloween, everybody complained, either that it was too much like the original or too different. I like that people either love or hate what I do because it’s better than being in the middle, which means forgettable. But when you do an original premise, they take it on face value and after three years of not being able to win on Halloween, I just couldn't go through that again.
So now he's attached to direct his original film idea called Lords of Salem which he will write and direct. The thriller is set in contemporary Salem, where the inhabitants receive a demonic visit from a 300-year old coven of witches.
There really isn't much more information on the project, but I've always been fascinated with the history of the Salem witches so hopefully this ends up being a good flick. This will be Zombie's next film project and will shoot something next year. The film is being produced by Haunted Films, which is the company run by the Paranormal Activity team of Jason Blum, Steven Schneider and Oren Peli.
Whether you like the movies Zombie makes or hate them, you have to respect the guy for ditching the remakes and moving on to directing his own original material. All filmmakers should be doing this these days! The remake crap need to stop!
What do you all think about Zombie's next film project?
