Kristen Bell Talks about VERONICA MARS Movie and Possible Web-series

Kristen Bell would love to get a Veronica Mars movie off the ground if she could! THR reports that she would finance the film herself to get it going. So why hasn't the film been made yet? Because Warner Bros. holds the rights to it, and they don't think the movie will make any money at the box office, because there isn't a big enough market.

It's a business and the sad truth is that ... they're not going to relinquish the rights to something and let us do it. We really have to do it with them because they own it.

So as long as the studio thinks the property is worthless we won't see a Veronica Mars movie any time soon. Bell continues saying,

At this point, Warner Bros. can make it but like any studio they have research that tells them whether or not they'll make their money back. And that's what we've been told: That it's just not there. So my duty, because I wanted this movie made from the minute our show got canceled, is to a) do it before I'm 40; and b) to prove to Warner Bros. that there is an audience. You already have 3 million who watched it every week hardcore fans that will see it -- you can only build from there.

Bell the goes on to say that she would be interested in developing a web-series for the show, but that fans are more interested in seeing something much bigger.

I would be down with doing a Web series. I think, and I don't speak for anyone else but myself, but I think that they want it grand because it is deserving of being on the big screen. I think that maybe our creators would settle for that but I think that we all really want to push for the movie if it can happen.

It's true, as a fan of the show I might watch a couple of the web series episodes, but I don't think I would really get into it. I would much rather see a movie made. I hope somewhere down the road it eventually happens, but I'm not getting my hopes up. It seems like the studio executives have already made up their minds.
