STAR WARS Films To Be Released in 3D Starting in 2012!

Movie 2012Star Wars by Joey Paur

We've been hearing rumors for years about the Star Wars saga being released theatrically in 3D. Over these years we've seen confirmations, denials and people who just aren't sure what is going on. But today we have an actual year in which these films will star being realesed! I'd say this is the most solid confirmation we have so far.

THR reports that George Lucas is set to re-release the entire Star Wars franchise in 3D starting in the early months of the year 2012! Apparently Lucas was just waiting for more 3D theaters to open up in theaters, and by 2012 there should be plenty.

The first film to be released will be The Phantom Menace. After that, each of the films would be released in order at the same time each consecutive year, depending on how well the first re-release does. So it's going to be 4 years before we actually get to the good ones!

THR reports:

Each conversion takes at least a year to complete, with Lucas personally overseeing the process to make sure each one is as perfected as possible. Lucas has said that the "Avatar" experience convinced him that "Star Wars" was ready for the state-of-the-art 3D treatment.

So there ya have it folks! Star Wars is coming to us in 3D! Of course the fans of the series are going pay Lucas more money to see these classic films again! Even the the bad ones.

Lucasfilm is also working toward another breakthrough in 3D TV technology. Apparently "Sony is planning to send its new version to market in the coming months, the home-viewing experience could be primed for 3D DVD versions of the classic films by the time the new 3D series runs its course."

So what do you all think about that! Are you excited that Star Wars 3D is actually coming?
