Chris Pine to Star in Alex Kurtzman's WELCOME TO PEOPLE

Chris Pine (Star Trek) is currently in negotiations to take on the lead role for a new drama called Welcome to People being directed by Star Trek screenwriter Alex Kurtzman. This will be Kurtzman's first directing gig, and it's being set up at DreamWorks.

Welcome to People tells the story of a man who must deliver $150,000 in cash to an alcoholic sister he didn’t know he had after the death of their father. Without telling her who he is, the guy also gets involved in the life of her angry 12-year-old son.

The movie sounds incredibly depressing. Kurtzman wrote the screenplay with his writing partner Roberto Orci. These two guys are mostly known for writing big budget action films like Transformers, Star Trek and Mission: Impossible III. I assume they've done this dramatic film to prove that they have some range.

Pine is a solid actor and this should be a good role for him to take on. What do you all think?
