Verizon began offering a limited edition Motorola DROID R2-D2.  The phone runs on the Android 2.2 operating system similar to other new Android phones.  What sets this smartphone apart is the following features:

  • Unmistakable R2-D2 rear cover
  • Charging dock and box designed to look like carbonite
  • Video footage of R2-D2
  • Custom Star Wars applications
  • A variety of Star Wars live and regular wallpapers

The DROID R2-D2 is available online and in Verizon Wireless stores for $249 with contract, after a $100 mail-in rebate.  I am a huge fan of Android phones, I currently have a HTC Hero and am very happy with it.  If I had Verizon as my provider I might be willing to shell out the money to show my Star Wars pride.

What are your thoughts of the DROID R2-D2?
