Microsoft is Still Interested in making a HALO Movie!
It seems like Microsoft is still most definitely interested in developing a Movie! This is absolutely great news for Halo and movie fans! Who knows when it will happen though. I'm still a little pissed off it never worked out with Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp. That Halo film would have been insanely awesome! That time has passed though, and that project will never happen. Now the only taste we've been getting of what a Halo film would be like are from those awesome live-action Halo: Reach commercials that have been released recently.
Microsoft has not given up on the Halo project, in fact they've spent countless millions of dollars trying to get the film into production only to see it fall apart, and they are still trying. Microsoft still retains the rights to the Halo movie franchise, and Variety reports that Microsoft is still developing scripts by Alex Garland, Stuart Beattie, D.B. Weiss and Josh Olson as potential movie blueprints.
Halo has the potential to be one of the biggest most successful movie franchises ever! I honestly think it could be just as big as Star Wars and even bigger than Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. It has all the makings of something insanely epic.
Franchise Development Director Frank O'Connor had this to say about the film project:
We're still interested in making an excellent 'Halo' movie. We've created an awful lot of documentation and materials to support a feature film. We have a good idea of what kind of story we want to tell, but won't move on it until there's a great reason to do it. We're in no particular hurry.
So they won't do it until there's a good reason? What reason do they need to move on this movie! I guess even though they want to still do it, it won't happen anytime soon. That's unfortunate for the fans, and I think making the movie for the fans of the franchise is good enough reason to get this film into production already! But that's just me.
O'Connor also says that the film will not be "a verbatim retelling of the game," it will be a stand alone story. "If you did do a 100% faithful version, 999 times out of 1,000 it would be a mess."
Another interesting little tidbit of news is that Microsoft is also "intently watching" the TV landscape as a potential outlet for a Halo series, which would be awesome as well!
Halo: Reach is the next video game in the franchise to be released, and that hits streets on September 14th. Hopefully the release of this game, and the success it see's will light a fire under Microsoft's ass and finally get a movie into development.
