Sacha Baron Cohen's THE DICTATOR gets a Release Date & Larry Charles Confirmed to Direct

A press release has been released from Paramount Pictures letting us know that Sacha Baron Cohen's new comedy The Dictator will be released on May 11th, 2012, and that Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno) has officially come on board to direct as previously rumored.

The film tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. It is inspired by the best selling novel Zabibah and The King by Saddam Hussein. The film includes the parallel stories of a goat herder and deposed foreign dictator who gets lost in this country. Cohen will play both characters.

Alec BergJeff Schaffer, and David Mandel wrote the script for the film, they also wrote the comedy EuroTrip, and they have all worked on the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm with Larry Charles.

This should be interesting.
