Summit Entertainment has bought the film rights to The Night Circus, the first novel by Erin Morgenstern being released in September by Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.

The novel tells the story of two young prodigy illusionists in the 19th Century who are groomed to battle out their fathers' age-old rivalry in an enchanted circus created just for their competition. They complicate matters by falling in love.

Erik Feig, president of production at Summit was able to get the rights from lit agent Richard Pine about the book generated tons of buzz at the 2010 Frankfurt Book Fair. Feig was able to persuade Pine to not hold meetings planned to sell the novel and instead was able to ink a deal for both movie and TV rights with Pine 's Inkwell Management and UTA.

A film adaptation is planned first with the possibility of a TV series. Feig will oversee development of this project and Pine will be exec producer and Jeyun Choi will serve as executive producer for Summit.

Feig had this to say about the novel:

"The Night Circus sets a spell on the reader from its very first page and we cannot wait to find the right filmmaker and cast to make the world come as inordinately alive as it does in the mind's eye."

This story sounds pretty cool, I look forward to reading the book. I like the idea of mixing romance with magic. For more information about Erin be sure to head over to her official website.
