Oscar Isaac lands Lead Role in Coen Bros. INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS

Oscar Isaac (Drive) has been cast in the lead role of the Coen Brothers next film project Inside Llewyn Davis. The film will focus on the early folk music scene in Greenwich Village in the 60s. A lot of actors in Hollywood were trying to get cast in this role, and Isaac beat them out. Isaac is a rising star, and it looks like we are going to start seeing more and more of him. He's currently shooting the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner. There's no doubt that starring in a Coen Bros. movie will only give a boost to his career.

The film comes from an original script which was written by and will be directed and produced by the Coen Bros. The story "centers around Llewyn Davis' struggles as a folk musician during the genre's 1960s heyday in New York City."

We previously reported that the film would be loosely based on the life of Dave van Ronk. Who was known as "the uncle of the coffeehouse scene, a big personality famed for his musical acumen, left-wing politics, general erudition and entertaining storytelling. On his watch, era-defining musicians such as Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell were discovered and cultivated. Van Ronk also was a noted blues guitarist in his own right." He died in 2002 at the age of 66, but his legacy lived on with his memoir published posthumously three years later titled "The Mayor of MacDougal Street", which is said to be part of the basis of the film.
