Ben Stiller directing horror film THE MOUNTAIN by Helen Childress for Fox

Ben Stiller is set to re-team with Helen Childress on his next project. Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox has picked up a spec script by Childress called The Mountain, which Stiller will develop to direct. He directed Reality Bites, which Childress wrote. Stiller and Red Hour's Stuart Cornfeld are set to produce.

The Mountain is a horror story based on characters from Summer, the novel by Edith Wharton. The story is set in the early 1900s and revolves around "a young woman who struggles to confront her destiny after stumbling upon a mysterious object that forces her to examine the secrets of her past." Imagine a sophisticated horror story that makes you think similar to Rosemary’s Baby.

This is the second project that Stiller and Childress are working on. The duo are developing an adaptation of the children’s book The Snowy Day. Stiller is set to star and direct a remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and he is starring in the Akiva Schaffer-directed comedy Neighborhood Watch with Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn.

I am having a hard time imaginig Stiller directing a horror film, but am interested in seeing how this project progresses. Reality Bites was a good movie, and I have enjoyed all of Stiller's directing gigs, even The Cable Guy.
