Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham-Carter in Talks for AKIRA

Now that the live-action version of Akira has the official greenlight a few more names have been added to the list of actors that couple be cast in the film. The initial report said Tron Legacy star Garret Hudlund could end up in the lead role of Kaneda the movie. Now it's being reported that Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight) has been offered the role of Colonel, and that Helena Bonham-Carter (Harry Potter) has been offered Lady Miyako.

The film is set to be directed by Jaume Collet-Sera (House of Wax, Orphan and Unknown), and so far the cast that has been mentioned so far is surprising. I'm not sure about how I feel about Hedlund taking on this character, the more I think about it the more I see that he doesn't fit the role at all. I can't complain about Oldman though.

The story basically follows the leader of a biker gang in New Manhattan, who’s friend gets jacked up from a medical experiment. There are more details about the movie being made below from a draft of the script.

What are your thoughts on the possible cast of the film so far?
