Peter Jackson to Shoot TINTIN Sequel after THE HOBBIT

We've known along that Peter Jackson would be directing the sequel to Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. I just assumed that a sequel wouldn't happen unless the first film actually did well, but Jackson has confirmed in a recent interview that he plans to direct the sequel to Tintin after he's finished directing The Hobbit. I still imagine that if the first film ends up bombing at the box office Tintin 2 wont happen. The movie has gotten some mixed reviews, of course people will see it, but will it be enough? This is a film that doesn't have a very select built in audience.

In the most recent addition of THR, the directors talked about the film, and Jackson was asked directly if he would helm the sequel once he’s done with The Hobbit to which he simply replied, “Yes.”

Spielberg went on to say that they still have yet to get the greenlight, but the studios have allowed them to develop it to the point where it’s ready to go. He explained “[Sony and Paramount] were willing to do one movie with us and then give us the financial werewithal to develop a script, do all the visual storyboards and get it really in launch position. So we can launch pretty quickly on a second movie. The script is already written."

The sequel will be called The Adventures Of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun, and the script to the sequel in being written by Anthony Horowitz creator of the Alex Rider series of young-adult spy novels. The plot for the film involves Tintin and his BFF Captain Haddock investigating a strange illness that has befallen seven explorers who have discovered an Incan tomb, before traveling to Peru to get to the bottom of the mystery.

There's also been talk of a third film, but there's no word on who will direct that one if the franchise makes it that far. Spielberg said that, “We haven’t talked about that, but I had such a wonderful time working on this; it liberated me as a director because I was able to run around by myself. It was a big collaboration, but at the same time it was one of the most personal experiences I’ve had. When you can actually hold the camera and create your shots, you don’t have a lighting team, a key grip electricians… Jackson then added... "It’s like the old days with Super-8."

I'm excited to see Spielberg's Titin, and it will be a few years before we see a sequel, but if all goes well it will eventually happen! What do you think about all this?
