Martin Scorsese may have found his followup to the 3D film Hugo, which arrives in theaters on November 23rd. Variety reports that he is talks to direct an adaptation of Jo Nesbo's bestselling mystery novel The Snowman for Working Title. No formal offer has been made, but he is reportedly "seriously considering helming the project." The Norwegian novel would adapted by Matthew Michael Carnahan

This is the seventh entry in Nesbo's series about detective Harry Hole. Set in Oslo and focuses on "a missing woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman. As Hole begins his investigation, he discovers that the crime appears to be the work of a serial killer." The project is being produced by Working Title's Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, while Nesbo and Niclas Salomonsson are serving as exec producers. This is primed as a possible series like The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the series has sold nearly 5 million copies worldwide.

Carnahan is a perfect choice to write the script, he penned Peter Berg's The Kingdom, Robert Redford's Lions for Lambsand Kevin Macdonald's State of Play. He also co-wrote Paramount's upcoming Brad Pitt-starrer World War Z. All of these films have the tension and suspense that will be perfect for this story. Scorsese can direct just about anything and it will be great. What are your thoughts?
