Guillermo del Toro's ALMA project moving Forward at DreamWorks Animation

DreamWorks Animation has decided to move forward with a animated feature with Guilermo del Toro called Alma. The movie is based on a wonderfully frightening short film about dolls that steal the souls of children that was created by Rodrigo Blaas. The story centers on a young girl who gets lured into an enchanted toy store, drawn in by its beautiful collection of dolls, including one that looks just like her. She discovers only too late that the shop is nefariously intent on adding her to its permanent collection.

Del Toro helped successfully steer DreamWorks Animation latest movie Puss In Boots in the right direction. I still haven't seen the movie, but I hear that it's hilarious. I guess Del Toro proved to the studio that he can bring magic to the films he touches, and they now want to see what he will be able to do with Alma.

Megan Holley has been hired to write the script for the feature length film. She is best known for writing the indie film Sunshine Cleaning. The original director of the short film use to be a Pixar employee, Blass has now moved on to DreamWorks where he will direct the feature film adaptation. Basically Del Toro will be a producer on the project and offer guidance similar to the kind he offered on Puss In Boots on which he contributed key notes and feedback.

For those of you who haven't seen the short film yet, make sure you watch it below! What are your thoughts on this news?
