LOGAN'S RUN remake gains new writer

Nicolas Winding Refn's remake of Logan’s Run is moving closer to production. THR reports that Andrew Baldwin has been hired to rewrite the script for Warner Bros. The new version stars Ryan Gosling and is being produced by Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman.

Logan’s Run "is set in a utopian, post-apocolyptic society in which people must be put to death when they reach age 30." This is a slight difference from the 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, where the age was 21. Michael York starred in the successful film version in 1976. A number of different different directors have been on board the film before Refn, each with varying takes on the story: including: Bryan Singer (X-Men), James McTiegue (V for Vendetta) and Carl Erik Rinsch (upcoming 47 Ronin).

So far the remake has seen scripts from Alex Garland (28 Days Later), and a treatment from Will Beall (Gangster Squad). Baldwin most recently sold his period Yakuza script  called The Outsider to Warner Bros. He also wrote Red Asphalt for Wanted director Timur Bekmembatov at Lionsgate, I think he will be a solid addition to the Refn and Goslling. This is one remake I am looking forward to seeing.
