Director Werner Herzog to play villain in ONE SHOT

Werner Herzog is stepping in front of the camera for his next project. Variety reports that the acclaimed director has come on as the villain in One Shot starring Tom Cruise. He will star alongside Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins and Robert Duvall in the film that was scripted and directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

The film is based on the book by Lee Child follows "Jack Reacher, a former military policeman turned drifter, who investigates the case of a sniper accused of murdering five people before being captured." Herzog will play "The Zec, an ex-prisoner of war who arranges and stages the killing and is the head of the conspiracy."  This is Herzog's first major role in front of the camera, and it gives McQuarrie the chance to fulfill his dream of working with the auteur.

I have yet to read the books, but know that many are not happy with Cruise as Reacher. I am a fan of Cruise and think he will do fine. Herzog is definitely ominous, so I can see him doing well as the villain. What are your thoughts?
