Evangeline Lilly Talks About Her Role in THE HOBBIT

Earlier this week, the L.A. Times Hero Complex - one of my favorite sites on the internet - held a free advanced screening of Shawn Levy's Real Steel in Los Angeles, featuring a Q&A with director Shawn Levy and star Evangeline Lilly. (Read my review of Real Steel here, and listen to our discussion of the film on the GeekTyrant Weekly Podcast here.) I was in there, and lead Hero Complex writer Geoff Boucher asked Ms. Lilly about her role in Peter Jackson's upcoming Hobbit films.

Boucher: I also have to ask you: how are things going in New Zealand? Because I understand you're making a little film called The Hobbit?

Lilly: Yeah, for a young woman who's really not into sci-fi, I'm very confused about my film choices. (Everyone laughs.) I'm having the greatest time in the world in New Zealand. I was a huge fan of J.R.R. Tolkien growing up, and if I had to choose anything I could have pretended to be in those books, it would have been, hands down, without question, an elf. And I am playing an elf. And it's the most fun. It's the greatest thing ever. My ears are the biggest things you've ever seen, and I love them.

Not anything groundbreaking, but enough of a tease to make me really want to see more from Peter Jackson and his team. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters in 2012 and The Hobbit: There and Back Again follows in 2013.
