Jena Malone to star in LONELY HUNTER as Carson McCullers

Jena Malone will play Carson McCullers in Lonely Hunters. THR reports that Malone will play the Southern gothic writer for Deborah Kampmeier (Hounddog) who is writing and directing the biopic. Filming is scheduled to begin filming in the spring.

The movie will span 35 years in the author and playwright's life, which "involved debilitating illness, a messy personal life and a creative circle that included Tennessee Williams and Truman Capote." The film is being produced  by Troy Johanson of Full Moon Films along with Kampmeier and Blair Breard. Abigail Disney of Fork Films will serve as executive producer.

Here is what Kampmeier had to say about the casting:

"Jena's vulnerability, curiosity, and passion are perfect for Carson. She is extremely gifted and I'm thrilled to be working with Jena in what I'm sure will be a very creative and exciting process."

Biopics seem to be all the rage lately, with J.Edgar coming out, Johnny Depp just signing on to play Dr Suess. This sounds like a good role for Malone. What are your thoughts?
