Tarsem Singh wants to Direct SAMURAI JACK Movie!

Movie Tarsem Singh by Joey Paur

The director of Immortals, The Fall, and The Cell Tarsem Singh wants to bring us a big screen adaptation of the classic animated TV series Samurai Jack, and I would love to see that happen! I thought Immortals was awesome, and the director is currently making his Snow White film Mirror Mirror. He's done with that he would love to make a Samurai Jack film.

Samurai Jack was created by Genndy Tartakovsky and I used to watch it all the time. That show was awesome, and I always felt it would make for a great live-action feature film... if done right. I think Singh has got the imagination and visual artistry to make one hell of a great film adaptation that fans of the show could get behind. The director had this to say in an interview with THR,

I love Samurai Jack. I would love to direct that. It’s brilliant. The speed, it embraces where it comes from. I find that comic strip films are halfway grounded. They don’t play my chord. But I love Samurai Jack. I love the animation.

The story centers on a warrior from feudal Japan who is banished into the future by a shape-changing demon, with the warrior battling aliens and robots as he tries to find a way back.

Brett Ratner was attached to direct the film adaptation at one point back in the early 2000's, thankfully that didn't happen. Singh could do a much better job with this material, New Line Cinema currently holds the rights to the series, all we can hope is that Singh can work something out with them.

Samurai Jack will unfortunately not be his next film, his next movie will be called My Dinner with Andre, which won't be the visual stylistic film that we've all come to know Singh by. With Immortals and Mirror Mirror, the director is trying to change things up a bit, and prove that he can do more different styles of filmmaking, which is great.

When you do something that they think is in your style, people will write a big check for you, and if it’s not your style, they’ll go, ‘Oh, no, he might sink us’ and cut your rate. But if you don’t change it up early in your career and force people to redefine how they see you, when will you?

So that's what he's doing, and so far so good. I just hope he does eventually get to do Samuari Jack! What are your thoughts on Tarsem Singh wanting to direct Samurai Jack? Do you think he would be a good choice for adaptating it?
