Kenneth Branagh is "Very Excited" Patty Jenkins is directing THOR 2

I loved Thor and thought that Kenneth Branagh did a fabulous job introducing the characters and universe on the big screen. It was a shame when he announced that he was not returning to direct the sequel. Branagh spoke with Moviefone about his decision not to return and the choice of Patty Jenkins as a director for the Thor 2.

Here is what he had to say about his choice not to direct the seuquel:

"[It was] simply timing. I loved doing the movie, I'd love to do another movie for Marvel, and it was just timing. The requirement for me was just to get back in the saddle so swiftly that it wasn't really feasible, but it was a decision [Marvel] understood."

Here is what he had to say about the choice for Jenkins to direct Thor 2:.

"I, along with a lot of other people, are very excited about the appointment of Patty Jenkins. I think that's a great choice to direct the movie. I know that Kevin Feige and all the people I worked very closely with, who were absolutely parts of the creation of that movie, are keen to produce a great second picture. So it was the right decision for me and for them and I am really looking forward to see how the second one develops."

Branagh was a surprise choice to direct the first film, but Jenkins is even more so. Jenkins directed the 2003's Monster, which starred Charlize Theron as the serial killer Aileen Wuornos. The drama does not match up with the superhero genre, but I have faith. Thor 2 is scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2013, so we will have to wait until then to see how Jenkins handles the scope of the highly anticipated sequel.
