John Singleton drops out of Tupac biopic

John Singleton has decided against directing the Tupac biopic. Slashfilm reports (via Shadow and Act) that Singleton has dropped out of his talks to direct the project. Antoine Fuqua was first attached to direct, but left because finding someone to play the lead role fo Shakur proved to be very difficult.

No news is available on why he dropped out at this time. Singleton has decided to focus his efforts on an untitled love story that reunites him with Baby Boy stars Tyrese Gibson and Taraji P. Henson. The Boyz in the Hood director seemed like a perfect fit for the job, especially since he had formed a friendship with the rapper-actor during the filming of Poetic Justice.

Very few details are known about the new project. It is described as "a crazy, dysfunctional love story set in the ‘hood.” Singleton will be directing from his own original script. One thing is for sure, the film is not planned as a sequel to Baby Boy, despite the involvement of Gibson and Henson.
