Tarsem Singh to Direct KILLING ON CARNIVAL ROW
Immortals director Tarsem Singh has just attached himself to direct another film project called Killing on Carnival Row. The film project was actually set up six years ago from a script written by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans, Pacific Rim). The project has obviously had a long road to development, and at one point was set up at New Line Cinema with Guillermo Del Toro and Neil Jordan on the list of directors to take it on. The producers now feel Tarsem is the right man for the job, and it's hard to argue.
The movie is described as a noir-style fantasy thriller, and the story "takes place in the future in a city called the Burgue, which looks a lot like 18th Century London. It is inhabited by humans and other creatures, and a serial killer is on the loose." This sounds like it will make for a pretty awesome movie, I love the concept, and I hope this turns out as well as I imagine. Tarsem definitely has a uniquely awesome style that will work perfectly for a movie like this. I thought he did a solid job with Immortals, but I'm not sure about his Snow White film Mirror Mirror. That looks like it will be a major disappointment.
Theproducer of the film, Arnold Kopelson, is currently in talks with a new studio and he had this to say in a statement,
I am thrilled that Tarsem will direct Carnival Row, which we’ve been developing over the past six years. His extraordinary visual sense and use of light and color can be compared to that of the great 16th Century Italian painter Michelangelo Caravaggio.
He's expected to start production on Carnival Row this next summer in June in New Orleans. So this could end up being his next film project unless he does something in between. I would love to see him take on Samurai Jack! What do you think about Tarsem taking on this film property?
