Ben Whishaw cast as Q in SKYFALL

One of my favorite aspects of the James Bond movies is always the cool spy gadgets that Bond has had to help him during his missions. Some unbelievably silly and others bad ass, but always coming from one man - Q. THR reports that

Skyfall

has found it’s new Q in

Ben Whishaw

.

Whishaw was previously announced as part of the cast, which includes Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes and Albert Finney among others. Director Sam Mendes reportedly chose Whishaw for the role, which marks the first time that Q has been younger than 007 in the franchise.

Q has not been a part of the Bond films since 2002’s Die Another Day when John Cleese turned on the quirk for the role. Growing up, I came to enjoy seeing the role portrayed by Desmond Llewelyn, who played the part for 36 years. Skyfall is slated to arrive in British theaters in October 2012 and then moving on to North America in November.

Whishaw will do fine in this part. I wondering if they are planning on having his character more involved int he story of Skyfall, now that he is younger. That would be interesting to see Q on screen for more than a few minutes like in prior films. What are your thoughts on this casting news?
