BREAKING DAWN Birth Scene Causing Epileptic Seizures
There have been reports of Breaking Dawn moviegoers having violent fits and convuslsions during the movie. No, these are not reactions to seeing Jacob shirtless or the honeymoon scene between Bella and Edward. It is actually one of my favorite parts of the film that has been causing what seems to be violent epileptic seizures.
According to Cinemeblend (via CBS), Brandon Gephart of Sancramento had a seizure as a result of the scene. Gephart’s companion stated that he was “convulsing, snorting, and trying to breathe.” The report also stated that this is just one of multiple instances that have been happening throughout the country,
The birth scene is very intense. Not only does the scene involve a great deal of blood, but the colors red, black and white flash on the screen throughout the scene. Dr. Michael G. Chez, the medical director of pediatric neurology and epilepsy for Sutter Sacramento, believes that the colors in the scene could be the cause of the epileptic episodes. Chez stated that “It’s like a light switch going off, because it hits your brain all at once.”

Epileptic seizures can be very intense and this scene could even triggger them in someone that is not used to having them, which makes it even more scary. Hopefully movie theaters will have warning signs to alert audiences of the situation. When I saw it last weekend, there were no warnings whatsoever.
