Jennifer Lopez producing live-action CARMEN SANDIEGO movie with Walden Media
Jennifer Lopez and Walden Media are teaming up to bring Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? to the big screen. Deadline reports that Walden has acquired the rights to make a live-action adaptation and that Lopez is currently only attached as a producer. The plan is to make the film into a mix of National Treasure and The Thomas Crown Affair.
Here is the logline:
"when the ACME agency’s greatest detective Carmen Sandiego becomes the world’s greatest thief, it’s up to her former partner to follow her clues and track her down. Their cat and mouse game leads the partner to confront a greater mystery: is Carmen really a thief or a hero?"
Lopez is producing along with her Nuyorican Productions’ partners Benny Medina and Simon Fields, along with Underground Films’ Nick Osbourne, Trevor Engelson and Devin Andre. This is a perfect project for Walden Media whose goal is to create films that challenge kids. Carmen Sandiego has been an educational computer game. then turned inot a TV series. has been used with great success in elementary schools nationwide. Disney attempted to get this film going with Sandra Bullock in the late 1990s, but it never went anywhere.
Lopez just wrapped What to Expect When You’re Expecting with Cameron Diaz and the Taylor Hackford-directed Parker with Jason Statham for FilmDistrict. I am not a huge fan of Lopez, so I would prefer to see Rosario Dawson in this role. What are your thoughts?
