Ridley Scott Discusses PROMETHEUS and ALIEN Connection

As you know Ridley Scott new sci-fi film Prometheus started out as a Alien prequel then turned into something completely different. At the same time it kept some of the elements from the original Alien film, without being directly attached to it. Scott discussed the connection of the two films in a recent interview, clarifying a few things. Everyone has been pretty quite about this film production and the story, but Scott has given us some pretty cool and revealing information about the film.

Here's where the director goes on to reveal some interesting and cool story details that we haven't heard before.

The central metaphor of Prometheus is about a “higher being” who challenges the gods, and the gods don’t want to give him fire. “Fire is our first form of technology,” Scott says, and so by taking fire, the higher being is punished “in perpetuity in a horrible fashion.” Much like the story of the mythological god, Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and for his actions was bound to a rock with an eagle eternally devouring his liver.

That sounds like a pretty far out and exciting concept. I cant wait to see how this story ends up playing out for us. He goes on to talk about the script of the film written by Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts:

I think the reason why I haven’t attempted science fiction in a number of years is because I haven’t really come across a script that I really liked,” Scott says. “This developed and came out extremely well.

Scott then went on to say that Prometheus actually does technically lead into his first Alien film! Revealing that the last eight minutes of the Prometheus story evolve into “a pretty good DNA of the Alien one.” The director expressed his excitement for the film and how much fun it's been working on it and with the technology.

Scott says he has “completely taken off into this cyberworld” and called working on Prometheus “the best time I’ve had in a number of years making a movie.”

Although Scott embraced “all the tricks, the toys” of computer-generated imagery and 3-D, he says, “I’m a great believer in filming the real thing if you can and so I did a lot of building the real thing.” He used the 007 stage (more commonly known as the Bond stage) at Pinewood Studios in the U.K., one of the biggest stages in Europe at about 59,000 square feet. He used other stages at Pinewood too.

The highly anticipated sci-fi film is being filmed in 3-D and stars Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron. Prometheus is scheduled to be released by 20th Century Fox in June of 2012, and it sounds like it's going to be everything we are hoping for! What do you think about what Scott had to say in this interview?
