Paramount Pictures circling DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE movie

Movie Paramount Pictures by
Paramount Pictures is making a deal to bring a new young adult novel to the big screen. Deadline reportst that the studio is currently negotiating to buy the rights to Laini Taylor’s novel, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, for somewhere in the  $700,000 range.

The novel was just published in September by Little, Brown Books For Young Readers. Two other studios have been interesting in bidding for the screen rights because of the potential for a big visual effects-driven fantasy that would be popular with young audiences. The story follows “a 17-year old art student who is sent by her awful father on travels across the globe to collect teeth for an unspecified but creepy purpose. This leads her to an encounter with an angel and revelations about her family that lead her into adventures involving otherworldly beings.:

While the deal is not finalized, the book is looking like it will eventually make it to the big screen. I think that with Twilight ending, so many studios are trying to capitalize on young audiences.
