ARTHUR & LANCELOT facing budget issues

Movie Joel Kinnaman by
Things are not looking too good for Arthur & Lancelot. Deadline is reporting that the David Dobkins scripted film will not be made uless the budget drops dramatically. The film is set to star Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington as Arthur and The Killing‘s Joel Kinnaman as Lancelot.
Even though it is slated for a March 15, 2013 release, it has gotten so bad that the studio has invited Dobkin to set the picture up elsewhere if he can. The budget started out at $90 million and sources say it has climbed to $110 million, and is growing. Sources say that the contemporary style re-imagining may get as high as $130 million. The studio feels that is too high for a film with two unproven leads.

I can understand the studios concern, but have to laugh a bit. Disney is spending over $200 million on a western, which is ridiculous. My question to Hollywood is why does a western need to have that high of a budget? Arthur & Lancelot is a movie I would actually like to see, unlike The Lone Ranger.

What are your thoughts on this news? Would you like to see this movie get made?
