Great Video Essay on Director Steven Spielberg - THE SPIELBERG FACE

Here's a wonderful video essay created by writer and producer Kevin B. Lee over at fandor that focuses on the films of director Steven Spielberg, more specifically the directors use of "The Face" in his movies, and the power behind his use of it.

If there is one recurring image that defines the cinema of Steven Spielberg, it is The Spielberg Face. Eyes open, staring in wordless wonder in a moment where time stands still. But above all, a child-like surrender in the act of watching, both theirs and ours. It's as if their total submission to what they are seeing mirrors our own.

Spielberg is one of my favorite film directors, and it always amazing me to see the performances that he can pull out of the actors he works with. We've all seen a Spielberg movie, so we all know how he uses the face to drive a point home to the audience, and make the audience feel a certain way. It helps us connect to these character. If you've never noticed the power behind Spielberg's use of the face in his films then after watching this video you will never watch a Spielberg film the same way again. Hope you enjoy the 10-minute video essay below. After you're finished watching it tell us what you think.
