Top Five WWII Movies - Saoirse Ronan to star in HOW I LIVE NOW

Saoirse Ronan has taken the lead in Kevin Macdonald's How I Live Now. Variety reports that the Hanna actress has signed on to the indie drama based on the 2004 novel by Meg Rosoff.

Ronan will play Daisy, “a teenage girl from New York City who travels to England to spend the summer with family in the English countryside. When World War II breaks out and insurgents invade, Daisy and a younger girl named Piper must survive alone in the woods as they try to make it to safety.” The script was penned by Jeremy Brock (Macdonald's The Last King of Scotland) and Tony Grisoni wrote the script.

I love war movies, especially WWII movies so I have compiled a list of my Top Five WWII Movies:

5. Hope and Glory
I loved John Boorman’s 1987 semi-autobiographical movie set during war torn England in WWII

4. The Dirty Dozen
Gotta love this ensemble action adventure. If you have not seen this classic, add it to your to do list. Watch it with your dad and you will enjoy.

3. The Bridge on the River Kwai
Alec Guinness (Star Wars’ Obi-Wan) and William Holden shine in this David Lean film that shows the hardships that Japanese PoW’s faced. It is long, but will leave you whistling the iconic tune.

2. Inglorious Basterds
Although this is not a true telling of War, it is a Quentin Tarantino movie. I think it is one of his best and I love Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender and Melanie Laurent.

1. Saving Private Ryan
Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks with a great story, ensemble cast and epic scope.

Ronan is currently filming Neil Jordan's Byzantium"and will next be seen opposite Alexis Bledel in Geoffrey Fletcher's teen assassin pic Violet & Daisy. and will star in an adaptation of Stephanie Meyers’ The Host.

I think that this sounds like a unique take on WWII, and one that I would like to see. Ronan is a solid actress and I think she will be great in the lead. What are your thoughts on this news and on the list above?
