FRIGHT NIGHT's Sandra Vergara Dishes About Filming and Upcoming Projects
In honor of Fright Night’s release on DVD/Blu-Ray, I spoke with Sandra Vergara. While you may not recognize her just yet, she put in a great performance in Fright Night and has a lot in the works. Not sure where you may have heard her name before? Her older sister stars on one of the highest rated TV shows – Sofia Vergara on Modern Family.
While Sofia is firmly in the TV landscape, Sandra doesn’t currently have a niche in film or TV carved out. “I just like acting! Obviously movies are fun, but I don’t really mind as long as it’s a good script” be it for a TV show or a movie, as long as she’s acting she’s happy and doesn’t have a real preference.
She’s had steady work in the industry for a while but Fright Night is definitely her biggest, most recognizable part. Read the rest of the interview below where we dive in to her role in the film, upcoming projects, and her hopes for the future of her career.
Did you like the original Fright Night?
Only when I got the script did I know about the original Fright Night. As soon as I got the script, I researched it and I saw it and I loved it! I thought it was amazing and I was really excited because it was such a good project with such great actors and a great script. How could I not be happy with that?
Do you consider yourself a fan of horror? What’s your favorite scary movie?
Super fan! I’ve always been a fan of horror movies. I think I would say The Shining – Is that a horror? It’s kind of more of a Suspense/Thriller. I also really like Hostel. It’s very gory! Its not that I’m messed up or into that, but it’s a movie and it’s very interesting.
How do you sell the movie to people who have a prejudice towards remakes?
The actors! Colin Farrell plays the vampire and the writing was kept pretty much the same, what changed is great acting, special effects, and technology. The fact that it’s in 3D makes it better I think.
How was it acting in a 3D film?
It feels normal. It actually feels the same as filming on regular camera. I loved the fact that it was 3D and in the original the technology wasn’t that great.
What other projects do you have coming up?
Right now, just a show called Dumb Girls. I’m pretty excited! It's for MTV and comes out next year. It’s about a group of girls who are really smart, but they’re dumb with men so its like a younger Sex and the City. I play the bombshell, the sexy Latina friend, but it's really funny and not that I mind, but I think I’m pretty good playing the funny spicy Latina girl so that’s basically what I did, and I’m pretty excited. I also have another movie coming out called God Bless America.
You totally fit the Sassy Latina role, like in Fright Night. But is there a type of role you really want to play?
You know it would be cliché if I told you the crackwhore because that’s like every actors dream, but to me my ideal role is something that I can relate to. Not necessarily being exactly like myself, but something that the story the character has gone through or something similar that me and the character have in common that would be nice to have common things with the story of that character that would be the best role I could play. Could be anything that relates to my life experience that I feel close but its really hard when I get like American detective not that I wouldn’t want to do it but it wouldn’t be my dream role you know. I think in between dramedy in between those two would be perfect.
Any particular actor that you could work with?
Meryl Streep is fantastic but I like a lot of actors! I love American Horror Story’s Jessica [Lange]. If I could, I’d guest star on that show, another horror show just a coincidence. I love it love it love it.
