Texting during a movie encouraged by Washington movie theater!

Texting on your mobile phone is usually met with hatred from other movie goers and in most cases being thrown out of the theater. We have shared some funny PSA videos that show what happens to people at the Alamo Drafthouse.

According to an article in the New York Times, the Tateuchi Center in Bellevue, Washington (which opens in 2014) is taking a completely different approach. They have decided to do away with all cellphone restrictions in an effort to attract younger patrons, who they see as the future of their theater.

Here is what John Haynes, the theater executivve director had to say:
“This is the wave of the future for the people we worry about attracting. Simply forbidding it and embarrassing people is not the way to go. So we are wiring the building in anticipation of finding ways to make it work over time.”
The same type of foreward thinking is happening at Football stadiums and sporting venues that are looking to renovate their facilities. These venues are looking at ways to incorporate ways to give patrons access to their fantasy football league. NFL execs at some stadiums are thinking of adding screens and wireless Internet access so fans can get online during the game through their mobile devices.

Our world continues to become more tech friendly, with free wifi access available at many places, so why not movie theaters? I mean many people like to check in on Foursquare and GetGlue when they go see a movie, so why not be able to Tweet their thoughts?

I personally am much more distracted by someone talking than I am by someone using their phone to text. Calling and talking are the biggest issue from me aside from showing up on time! What do you think of this news?
