New STAR TREK Villain could be Played by Edgar Ramirez

Movie Star Trek by Joey Paur

It was recently reported that Benico Del Toro was unfortunately no longer attached to play the villain in J.J. Abrams' sequel to Star Trek. The director and studio are moving forward and trailer to find his replacement, and it looks like they may have found him. Edgar Ramirez is now at the top of the list. Ramirez has had roles in films such as The Bourne Ultimatum, Che, Vantage Point, Domino, and is also in the upcoming film Wrath of the Titans.

According to Variety, "Ramirez is expected to test for the role via Skype either later today or early tomorrow." Abrams is looking to make his final decision before the weekend comes. He has to make it quick because production starts next month.

As you've all heard the rumor is that the villain in the sequel will be Khan even those Abrams and the studio have denied it. It seems like it would make sense if it was Khan, after all the director is looking for an actor of Latin descent. This is the same ethnicity of Ricardo Montalban, who played Khan in the original series and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

It would be cool if Khan was the villain, at the same time I hope they don't touch the classic Star Trek villain. It would be better if they came up with a new and original villain. I guess we'll eventually find out the truth of what they are planning.

What are your thoughts on Ramirez possibly taking on the lead villain role in this movie?
