Ryan Gosling to Star in LOGAN'S RUN Remake
Warner Bros. is going to cast Ryan Gosling (The Notebook) in the lead role of their Logan's Run remake. This will reunite the actor with director Nicolas Winding Refn who worked together on the film Drive in which Gosling plays a stunt driver who moonlights as a heist wheel man. This movie has a long history of talent attached to it directors Bryan Singer and Carl Eric Rinsch have both been attached the film project.
According to Deadline "Gosling will play Logan 5, a 'Sandman' whose job it was to put to permanent sleep those who try to escape mandatory death, the downside of the blissful existence in the domed city that protects the inhabitants who survived a 23rd Century apocalypse."
Gosling is a great actor and I'm sure he'll do an awesome job in this movie. This will definitley be his biggest, most commercial film to date. Gosling has mostly starred in smaller low-budget indie films. Before this his most commercial film was The Notebook.
The script for Logan's Run was written by Sunshine and 28 Days Later scribeAlex Garland so there's a solid chance that the script is going to be really good as well. This actually could end up being a great remake of a classic film, but only time will tell.
The original Logan's Run came out in the summer of 76 and here's a little description of it.
It is 2274. Some type of holocaust has decimated the earth, and the survivors sealed themselves into a domed city near Washington, D.C. To maintain the population balance, the computers that run the city have decreed that all people must die at 30. This system is enforced by "sandmen" : black-clad police operatives who terminate (kill) "runners" (those who attempt to live beyond 30). Logan, a sandman, is sent on a mission to find "sanctuary," which is a code- word used by the master computer to describe what it believes is a place to which runners have been escaping. Logan begins to question the system he serves and after seeing for himself that there is life beyond the dome, he returns to destroy the computer.
