Richard Kelly to Direct a non-sci-fi thiller called CORPUS CHRISTI
Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly is about to embark on a filmmaking journey he's never been on before. Kelly, whose also directed films such as Southland Tales and The Box, has always dabbled in the realm of science fiction, but that wont be the case with his next film Corpus Christi.
Corpus Christy is a contemporary thriller set in Texas, and the story follows a mentally unstable Iraq war veteran named Paciencia "Patience" De La Rosa, who forges a strange friendship with his boss Ralph Salverson, the wealthy and politically ambitious owner of a supermarket chain.
I've always been a big fan of Kelly, I loved Donnie Darko, I liked Southland Tales more than everyone else, but I didn't really care that much for The Box. Maybe this next film will be good for him, and get him back to the basics of story telling. He seems to be loosing his audience these days, due to the fact his films have become a bit schizophrenic.
The film is being produced by Kelly and Sean McKittrick through their Darko Entertainment banner, along with Eli Roth. They hope to get the film into production this July, and casting is currently under way. According to Variety we should expect an announcement before the end of March.
What do you think about what Kelly is planning for his next film?
