Phillip Noyce officially set to direct HUNTER KILLER

Movie Battle: Los Angeles by

Phillip Noyce (Salt, The Bone Collector) has officially signed on to direct Relativity Media's Hunter Killer. The film is based on the novel "Firing Point" by George Wallace ("Final Bearing") Cdr. USN Ret. and Don Keith ("Final Bearing"). Production is scheduled to start in late 2011.

Noyce made a name for himself with film's like, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, and is helming the film based on the script from Jamie Moss (X-Men: First Class, Escape From New York), John Kolvenbach (Coney Island) and Arne Schmidt (Chain Reaction).

Hunter Killer focuses on "an untested submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL team to rescue the Russian president, who has been taken prisoner during a military coup, in an effort to stop a rogue Russian General from igniting World War III."

Producing are Original Film's Neal Moritz (Battle: Los Angeles) and Toby Jaffe (Prom Night), and Relativity's Ryan Kavanaugh (Immortals). Relativity's President of Worldwide Production Tucker Tooley (The Fighter) is serving as exec producer.

Noyce is a great choice to direct this film. What are your thoughts on this news?
