The Academy Refuses Banksy's Request to appear at the Oscars in Disguise

It looks like street artist turned film director Banksy wants to attend the Academy Awards and asked the Academy heads if it would be alright is he showed up in a disguise so he can keep his identity a secret. He recently told the London Press that his request has been denied.

Well that sucks! He was told by the Academy Award chiefs that he could do it because they feared that such a move would invite copycat gatecrashers. So if he shows up he will have to show up as himself, which means he probably wont show up which is a shame.

Banksy is nominated for his documentary film Exit Through the Gift Shop which is easily going to win this years award for Best Documentary. After the nominations were announced, Banksy had this to say in a statement,

This is a big surprise. I don't agree with the concept of award ceremonies, but I'm prepared to make an exception for the ones I'm nominated for. The last time there was a naked man covered in gold paint in my house, it was me.

He doesn't say one way or another how he feels about the Academy's decision not to let him wear a disguise so he can go to the awards, but I'm sure he was disappointed. It's not every day someone gets nominated for an Oscar. Fact of the matter is, he wants to attend and he has to find a way to do it without getting noticed.

What do you think of the Academy's Decision?
