MPAA gives the re-cut version of THE KING'S SPEECH a pg-13 rating
It was announced today that The Motion Picture Assoc. of America has given a PG-13 rating to an alternate version of The King's Speech. It is reported that the re-cut version of the film has had the contentious F-words muted out.
According to the press release, The MPAA and the National Association of Theatre Owners have decided to waive a rule requiring the distributor to fully withdraw the original version of the film from theaters for 90 days before replacing it with an alternative.
Here is what the MPAA's interim president and CEO Bob Pisano had to say in the statement:
"The Weinstein Co. has undertaken a commitment to ensure, through a revised advertising campaign, that it will be clear to consumers that a newly rated version of this film is coming to theaters near them. In this case a waiver is justified."
The King's Speech has grossed $106 million domestically and is nominated for 12 Academy Awards. While I think that this version will definitely give the film a much wider audience, but at what cost. I personally think that this is a crock of crap. This year there have been a large amount of odd ratings from the group. the film in gaining an even wider audience. I personally think that the MPAA should completely be reorganized.
