Shawn Levy Attached to Direct FANTASTIC VOYAGE

Movie Shawn Levy by Joey Paur

20th Century Fox has hired director Shawn Levy to helm the James Cameron produced 3D film remake of Fantastic Voyage. Levy is known for directing films such as the Night at the Museum movies, but most recently directed Date Night, and the upcoming film Real Steel with Hugh Jackman. He's a solid commercial movie director, but most of his films lack any kind of depth or personal touches. He's one of those directors that films what the studios tell him to film. I am excited to see what he ends up doing with Real Steel though. That looks like it could be a lot of fun. I'm sure he'll do a fine job bringing Fantastic Voyage to life under the direction of James Cameron.

The original film was made during the Cold War, and revolved around a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent on a miniature submarine to save the life of a defecting Soviet scientist. The story then followed the biological adventures the team encounters in trying to save the scientist and themselves. The new film will follow the original story, except the Cold War element will not be there.

The movie will be filmmed from a script written by Laeta Kalogridis who also wrote Shutter Island for Martin Scorsese, and is writing Ghost in the Shell for Avi Arad and DreamWorks and rewriting Nine Lives for Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney.

Darren Aronofsky, Timur Bekmambetov, Jonathan Mostow and Louis Leterrier all met with Cameron at some point to possibly take on the directing duties for this movie, but Levy is the guy that's going to take it on.
