Richard Linklater may direct THE INCREDIBLE MR. LIMPET remake

Richard Linklater is close to directing the remake of The Incredible Mr. Limpet for Warner Bros. Linklater has mostly directed indie fair, his last time direcint a big budget film was 2005's The Bad News Bears starring Billy Bob Thornton

Linklater is the studios top choice to helm the new version of the underwater adventure-comedy according to the LA Times. The director has met with the studio several times to discuss his vision for the film, but a deal has not been finalized.

The original film was released in 1964 and starred Don Knotts "as an everyman who is transformed into a fish and goes on to fight Nazis." This new version has been in the works at Warner Bros. for awhile Kevin Lima (Enchanted) had been attached to direct, but dropped out. Last year it was reported that Zach Galifianakis was attached to star in the lead.

The new Limpet is planned to be filmed in the same vain as the original with a mix of animatetion and live-action, but will not feature a story set in WWII. Linklater has experience with animation on his films, Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly
