Doug Liman's Sci-Fi Film Project Moon Project Moving Forward

Movie Doug LimanMoon by Joey Paur

It looks like director Doug Liman's (Swingers, The Bourne Identity) untitled sic-fi Moon project is finally moving forward at Paramount Pictures. It's been an interesting news day for Paramount. They lost the rights to Dune, are about to kill off World War Z if they can't find additional investors, and now they've breathed life into a project Liman has been trying to get off the ground since 2007.

The story centers on a renegade group of former space employees, led by an Eastern European woman, who travel the world, stealing space equipment in an attempt to go back to the moon to acquire an energy source. The last item to steal -- or in this case, kidnap -- is an ex-NASA employee.

This sounds like it could be a pretty cool movie. It was first set up at DreamWorks and then moved over to Paramount. Jake Gyllenhaal was attached as the lead character in the film for a long time, but his schedule got busy and the actor moved on.

Liman is currently meeting with several actors for the role which so far includes Andrew Garfield, Emile Hirsch and Chris Pine. These are all great actors, and I'd be happy to see any of them get the lead role.

As far as actresses go he's met with Rosario Dawson, Megan Fox, Rachel McAdams, Eva Mendes, Zoe Saldana and Olivia Wilde. If I had a choice I would scratch Mendes and Fox off the list.

Of course these aren't the only actors that the director will meet with. Liman has been working on developing another sci-fi film project  at Warner Bros. called All You Need is Kill, but according to THR that movie is starting to "cool down" so he's moving back onto this Moon project which is gearing up for production.
