CHILD'S PLAY remake finally happening?

A rumor has cropped up online that the Child's Play remake (rumored since 2007) is finally going into production soon. The rumor comes from HorroBid.com, and says that Don Mancini, writer of all of the previous films, already has a script written. Up until now, the delay has been MGM (owner of the original film) and Universal Pictures (owner of the sequels) being able to come to an agreement on who would own the rights to the remake. A deal has apparently been finalized, because the film titled Child's Play, is slated to begin production later this year from MGM and will have Brad Dourif as voice the doll.

Many have speculated that the film will be a remake, but it is being talked about more as a reboot of the franchise. According to Don Mancini, it will not be a shot for shot remake of the original film, but a darker and more sinister film. As HorrorBid stated, "Don't' expect Tiffany and Glen or that over the top comedic nature to be present in this film. Stay tuned as again this is still a rumor but one with a very solid foundation."

The first film in the franchise was pretty damn scary and it will be cool to head back into that type of mindset for this remake/reboot. What are your thoughts about this news?
